WHAT IS A WIND MITIGATION INSPECTION?
A Wind Mitigation Inspection is a type of home inspection that evaluates the wind resistance of a building, with the goal of reducing wind damage in the event of a hurricane or other high-wind event. This inspection focuses on specific features of the building structure and construction that can help to reduce wind damage, such as the type of roof material, roof shape, the strength of roof-to-wall connections, the presence of impact-resistant windows and doors.
The inspector will evaluate these features and provide a report that summarizes the wind-resistant qualities of the building. This report can be used by homeowners to obtain discounts on their wind insurance premiums, as many insurance companies offer discounts for homes that have been determined to be wind-resistant.

Roof shape (hip, gable, flat, etc.)
Decking nail attachment spacing
Decking fastener type
Decking thickness
Rafter to wall connections (sometimes called hurricane clips)
Secondary Water Resistant underlayment (self-adhesive underlayment)
Hurricane protection/shutters (optional/not a requirement but may receive discounts on you homeowner's insurance if qualified for this credit)
